Over 100 Years of Experience and Expertise

A global leading supplier of salt for food, retail, pharma, agri, water treatment & other high quality industrial applications.

A wide variety:

Salt products cover a broad spectrum of grain sizes, compacted products and formulations for various applications.

Our long history has made us master the skills of mining and compacting salt to perfection.

We still source our natural pristine salt from underground caverns in the Netherlands and Denmark, which were created millions of years ago by the evaporation of ancient seas.

Salt has been our business since 1918. Starting as Royal Dutch Salt Industries (KNZ) in the Netherlands, we first obtained our products by means of evaporation in open pans. The salt was dissolved in underground salt layers, formed hundreds of millions of years ago. In 1926, we adopted the far more energy efficient method of vacuum evaporation.  Around 1963 we extended our business by starting salt production in Denmark, to serve the Scandinavian markets as well.

These days, Salt Specialties is one of the world’s leading salt specialists, supplying high-quality products for all different kinds of applications. Salt Specialties exports its products throughout the whole world. These products cover a broad spectrum of grain sizes, ranging from micro fine, to coarse salt, to compacted products.

Our business is well known for the strong brand names under which its products are sold, such as Jozo®, Nezo®, KNZ®, Sanal®, Suprasel®, Broxo® including our sodium reduction solution, OneGrain®. In our market approach we distinguish six end-customer market segments: Retail, Food, Pharma, Agriculture, Water Treatment and Industrial.

With this segmentation we are able offer different value propositions to customers varying from commodities in the industrial market to high value specialties in the pharmaceutical market.
